1. What is MyLastKey?
MyLastKey is software that comes with a specially encrypted USB stick. It allows you to securely store passwords, PINs, and other confidential information for emergencies, ensuring your heirs or other trusted individuals can access them when needed.
2. How is data encrypted with MyLastKey?
The data on the USB stick is secured using the AES encryption standard, a globally trusted and highly secure algorithm.
3. How secure is MyLastKey, and is it future-proof?
MyLastKey combines strong AES-256 encryption with exclusive offline usage to optimally protect your sensitive data. The software has been developed using state-of-the-art C# programming and is designed to work completely autonomously and independently of any online services. Since no servers, cloud services, or internet connections are required, there are no external dependencies that could limit its functionality in the future. Even many years from now, you can continue to use MyLastKey as long as the USB stick remains intact and a compatible Windows operating system is available. For even greater security, we also recommend creating regular backups of your data (including “Backup”, “Vaults”, and “FileVaults”).
4. Can I use MyLastKey online?
No, MyLastKey is designed to be used entirely offline. No data is stored or transmitted online, ensuring maximum security.
5. Which operating systems is MyLastKey available for?
Currently, MyLastKey is only available for Windows. The software requires a minimum of Windows 7 and 4 GB of RAM.
6. What happens if I lose my USB stick?
Since the data is encrypted, no one can access the information without the password.
7. What if I forget my password?
If you forget your password, there is no way to recover the encrypted data. It is crucial to keep your password stored safely.
8. Do I need an internet connection to use MyLastKey?
No, MyLastKey operates completely offline, which enhances security and protects your data from external threats.
9. Is there a mobile version of MyLastKey?
Currently, MyLastKey is available only for Windows PCs. A mobile version is not planned at this time.
10. How should I store my USB stick?
We recommend keeping the USB stick in a safe place, such as a secure safe. Additionally, we recommend our fireproof MyLastKey protective bags for extra security.
11. Can I share the data on the MyLastKey stick with other people?
Yes, you can share the MyLastKey stick and the password with trusted individuals to grant them access to the stored information.
12. Can someone secretly copy my USB stick to access my data?
No, the MyLastKey software only works on the original MyLastKey USB stick that comes with your purchase.
13. Are updates provided?
Our software has been thoroughly tested and is designed to operate completely offline and autonomously. Since no internet connection is required, automatic updates are unnecessary. Updates could potentially pose a security risk, which is why we deliberately avoid them. This ensures your data remains fully protected and the software continues to function reliably without external interference.
14. How can I change the language?
Under the “Settings” section, you can select from the following languages: English, German, French, Spanish, Portuguese, Hindi, Chinese, and Arabic. After restarting the software, the newly selected language will be available.
15. What is the best way to get started when using MyLastKey for the first time?
In the “Help” section, you will find numerous tips to make it easier to get started and to ensure that you don’t forget any important information.
As a first step, we recommend importing export files from common online password managers (e.g., 1Password, Bitwarden, etc.) into the MyLastKey File Vault. These files are securely encrypted and stored, allowing you to have a large portion of your everyday passwords already saved.
Next, you can add handwritten password notes. Afterwards, you may also store your bank details, subscriptions, insurance information, important addresses, and cash hiding spots. To make things easier, you can simply scan or photograph documents and store them directly in MyLastKey.
Additional useful tips and step-by-step instructions can always be found in the “Help” section.
16. My entered data was not saved — what am I doing wrong?
Possible causes include antivirus programs blocking the process due to the strong encryption algorithms, a temporary loss of connection with the USB stick, or a defective USB port. Try using a different USB port directly on your PC, temporarily disabling your antivirus software, and repeating the saving process.
Your data is always saved automatically in the background — you do not need to press any save button or take additional actions.
